Norton Green Improvements

Works have been completed in Norton that not only provide significant traffic benefits, but also enhance and protect environment around Norton Green. The work follows a large-scale public consultation exercise by Stockton Council.

A new roundabout has been constructed at Blackwell's Corner with a one-way, clockwise, system on Darlington Lane and the western road which is located in front of Red House Junior School.

The improvements also included formalised parking arrangements together with waiting restrictions, improved signage and overall improvements, all in keeping with the status of Norton Green as a Village Green and Conservation Area.

The works were carried out in two phases.

Phase One, was the introduction of the one-way system around the western service road.

Phase Two - the introduction of a roundabout at 'Blackwell's Corner'.

The works were substantially completed in November 2009. One section of the roadworks is still outstanding.  This is because a Northern Electric cable was found at a shallow depth outside Blackwell's Butchers shop. This cable will need to be diverted before the final section of the surfacing works can be competed. Unfortunately Northern Electric require time before they are able to carry out the works.  We hope that the works will be completed before Easter 2010.
