Street Lighting
We maintain over 26,000 street lights and about 2,000 illuminated sign and bollards on our highways, roads and footpaths. We work closely with CE Electrical Services (Northern Electric), who supply the power.
We carry out regular checks to ensure lamps are working
correctly. Between October and March, we inspect the lights on our highways
every two weeks. From April to September these are checked every four
weeks.
Our average repair time is at present three days for a simple repair (e.g.
lamp, fuse etc.) However, some lighting faults are due to electricity
supply failures, the majority of which are repaired by the utility company
(IUS). Unfortunately these repairs can take up to 30 days. We are working
to bring these repair times down.
If you know of a faulty light, or illuminated bollard, sign etc. please
report it to us. The sooner we know the quicker it will be repaired.
Report a faulty or damaged street
light
If you call us please try and have the light number, which is painted on
the yellow patch on the front of the column, and also its location to aid
with your enquiry.
