Stockton Borough Council provides a Crossing Patrol Service at over 70 locations throughout the Borough. The service is operated by the Councils Road Safety Team who took over from the Police in 1996.
Drivers should be aware that they are required by law to stop when requested to do so by a Crossing Patroller - those who fail to do so risk a fine of up to £1000 and 6 penalty points of their licence. Motorists may also occasionally see CCTV equipped enforcement vehicles at a site; these vehicles are there to assist and protect the patroller, any motorist caught ignoring or abusing a patroller will have their details passed on to the Police for prosecution.
Parents and children should use the patrols provided and follow the guidance of the Patroller when crossing.
Cyclists wishing to cross the road need to be aware that a patroller will not stop traffic for them unless they dismount.
