Stay safe on your journey
Follow these easy rules to help you keep safe during your taxi journey.
-
Always use the seatbelts provided and where possible sit in the back of
the vehicle.
-
Always use licensed vehicles and drivers. Stockton-On-Tees Borough
Council will not have examined unlicensed vehicles for safety and
roadworthiness. They may not even have a current MOT. Drivers will not
have been subject to Council checks to ensure they are a fit and proper
person to be driving a licensed vehicle.
-
Do not try and persuade the driver to carry more passengers than the
vehicle is licensed for. In the event of an accident or other problem
you may not be able to claim damages or compensation.
- No matter what age the child they count as one passenger - for example, four adults and one baby can not be carried in a vehicle licensed for four passengers.
If you have a problem and need to complain.
Remember:
- To obtain the registration mark or licence plate number of the vehicle.
- To obtain the driver's badge number if possible.
- A physical description of the driver.
- The name of the taxi/private hire company
- All these points will help us trace the driver and vehicle.
