Low Floor Buses And Stops

Low Floor Bus & Stop

Since 1998, Stockton Council has worked closely with local bus operators to introduce Low Floor Bus Routes across the borough. Low floor bus routes involve the provision of low floor platforms at stops to enable operators to run new low floor buses that make it easier for passengers to board and alight, especially those who are elderly or have disabilities or parents with young children in buggies.

To date, six routes have been upgraded through the provision of low floor platforms at stops. These include the Stagecoach operated 60 service between Stockton High Street and the Salters Lane Estate , the Stockton to Billingham and Stockton to Yarm Bus Green Routes and the improved and extended 1 and 37 services providing improved access to local hospitals .

The Arriva 17 route between Yarm, Stockton, Thornaby and Middlesbrough has been upgraded along with stops on the 15/16 route between Thornaby, Stockton and the University Hospital of North Tees.

Work is progressing on upgrading stops on the X6 route connecting Yarm, Ingleby Barwick and Middlesbrough.

Stockton will soon have over half of its stops upgraded to accommodate Low Floor Buses, which demonstrates that the Council is doing what it can to encourage bus operators to put more modern, fully accessible buses on routes in the borough.
