Bus Shelters & Bus Stops

There are over 400 bus stops with shelters within the Borough, of which over 150 are provided by Adshel, a private company who maintain and clean these bus shelters free, in return for advertising rights within the bus shelters.

New bus shelters are budgeted for each year, sites are identified by a high boarding incident (usage of the buses), sufficient footway or verge width to allow pedestrians to pass the shelter and sites that minimise any nuisance to residents.   Where new shelters are wanted, these will be provided as funds become available, currently there is a waiting list of over 80 sites.

For more information regarding the provision of bus shelters/bus stops contact us (see contact details to the left of this text)

Maintenance of Bus Shelters & Bus Stops

On the four main Green Bus Routes, which link Stockton Centre to Billingham, Norton, Thornaby & Yarm are inspected and cleaned on a monthly basis. Any essential repairs are identified at that time and prompt remedial work e.g. glass panel replacements is scheduled to be carried out.

Bus shelters on other bus routes in the Borough are cleaned and repaired as necessary.
If you want to know more about maintenance of bus shelter or bus stops or want to report those requiring attention please contact Highways.
