Introduction
Stockton Council does not operate bus, train or taxi services. These services are provided by a number of different private operators, all of whom operate on a commercial basis.
The Council is however committed to improving access to the public transport network as part of a wider commitment to improving access to jobs, education, healthcare, retail and leisure facilities within the Borough. As part of this commitment the Council invests well over £2 million a year in:
- New Infrastructure including bus stops & shelters, bus priority schemes, CCTV cameras on buses and rail enhancements
- Paying for Non-Commercial early morning, evening and Sunday 'Boroughbus' Bus Services that would not otherwise be provided
- Concessionary Fare Schemes, including the Enhanced Concessionary Fares scheme providing free travel for men and women over 60 and disabled people, free travel for residents who are registered blind, plus the 'Pathfinder' scheme for 16 to 19 year olds
- Community Transport, including the 'Dial-a-Ride' service
