Area Transport Strategies

Since the First Stockton-on-Tees Local Transport Plan was published in July 2000, there has been a move away from the 'one size fits all' approach to transport policy and a growing recognition that many aspects of transport provision are best dealt with locally. For this reason, a series of four Area Transport Strategies - based on the Area Boards of Stockton Renaissance, the Local Strategic Partnership for the Borough - have been developed to ensure that the Second Stockton-on-Tees Local Transport Plan fully reflects local needs.

A Guidance Note (available for download below) sets out the 'ground rules' governing the development of the four Area Transport Strategies. Chapter 5 of the Second Local Transport Plan (also available for download below) details the process followed, together with the 'Top Five' Priorities identified in each Area.

Each of the Area Transport Strategy Steering Groups meets twice a year to review progress against the 'Top Five' Priorities. In addition, the Steering Groups are directly responsible for the allocation of a proportion of the funding within the Council's annual Local Transport Capital Programme, primarily towards minor schemes identified as local priorities.
