Parking Enforcement

The penalty charge is dependent upon the seriousness of the parking contravention - the charges are £50 or £70. Examples of how a charge is determined are listed below:

Parking in a place where it is allowed but staying longer than the parking ticket you have paid for would be a lower charge
Parking in a place that is prohibited - such as yellow lines, would attract a higher charge

A parking penalty will be reduced by 50% if the charge is paid within 14 days. If a parking penalty is not paid by the date stated the charge may increase by 50%.

Additional changes to parking enforcement rules are:

Parking penalty charges, in some circumstances, may be sent by post
Parking enforcement can be used for dangerous parking at pedestrian crossings (obscuring visibility for drivers and pedestrians), at dropped footways, and at locations remote from the carriageway edge, sometimes referred to as 'double parking'.

The council is a member of the Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside London (PATROL) Adjudication Joint Committee. The Joint Committee publishes an Annual Statement of Accounts which is subject to External Audit and the arrangements and timetable for 2009/10 can be found on the PATROL website.
