Trading Standards and Licensing

Trading Standards and Licensing Service for Stockton offers many services that help to provide a safe and fair trading environment, which protects both consumers and reputable businesses.

We are able to provide advice and take legal action, where appropriate, with the following issues:

  • Consumer Advice Centre - faulty consumer goods and services
  • Consumer Credit - monitor credit licences, transactions, documentation and adverts
  • Fair Trading - counterfeit goods, doorstep crime, misleading pricing and product descriptions
  • Product Safety - safety of all consumer goods on the market
  • The Age Restricted Sale - of products such as alcohol, cigarettes, solvents and fireworks
  • Food Standards - making sure food accurately described, labelled and of the correct composition
  • Weights and Measures - the accuracy of weighing and measuring equipment and all quantity declarations
  • Agricultural Standards - relating to fertilisers and animal feeds
  • Road Traffic - regarding unroadworthy or overloaded vehicles
  • Licensing Act - licensing of alcohol, public entertainment and late night refreshment
  • Gambling Act - licensing of casinos, bingo halls, betting shops, gaming machines and lotteries
  • Transportation Licensing - vehicle, driver and operator licences for both hackney carriages and private hire vehicles
  • Other Licensing issues - charitable collections, skin piercing, street trading, explosives, poisons and animal welfare establishments
