Specialist learning team
Our specialist learning team provides literacy support across all key stages and numeracy support across the primary stages.
The teachers working within the team have extra qualifications in 'specific learning difficulties' (SpLD) and have experience of working with, and identifying dyslexia and dyscalculia.
Advice and support
We provide a range of services including; advice and support, training, specialist teaching for dyslexia and dyscalculia and also assessment and reports for individuals.
We work with parents, special educational needs co-ordinators (SENCOs), class teachers and teaching assistants to provide learning resources, formulation of targets and the modelling of programmes of work and their delivery within the school context.
We can support pupils with direct teaching on a one-to-one or small group basis. Our teaching styles take account of the need for a structured, cumulative and multi-sensory programme.
Specialist teaching
Classes of up to eight pupils, led by specialist SpLD teachers, are available to support pupils identified as experiencing problems with dyslexia or dyscalculia.
Assessment
The assessment of literacy and numeracy skills is undertaken and can include:
- initial screening of pupils
- standardised and diagnostic assessment
- identification of dyslexia and/or dyscalculia
- monitoring of progress
