Recruitment and Selection Procedure for the Graduate Teaching Programme
Stockton-on-Tees Graduate Teaching programme has a structured
recruitment and selection process as outlined below:
Stage 1 & 2: Scrutiny of
Applications - following the closing date, applications are
scrutinised by the selection panel and those applications suitable for
further consideration will progress to Stage 3. A letter will be
sent to both successful and unsuccessful candidates between late
December and early January.
Stage 3: Central Selection Event - applicants selected for Stage 3 are invited to attend a daytime session during which they are required to carry out a range of assessed activities. These include: written task; oral communication task; group task; ICT task*; subject knowledge for secondary applicants; numeracy activity for primary. The results from these activities are analysed and successful candidates are recommended to schools.
Applicants are required to bring along original certificates for all required qualifications to be checked and verified. Please note that a provisional statement of result slip is not acceptable. If you have lost your original certificates you will need to contact the exam board for a certified statement of results. A letter will be sent to both successful and unsuccessful candidates within two weeks of this event.
* You may wish to practice the ICT test before attending Stage 3. An example test is available via the TDA website. Once you have opened this link follow the instructions. You may also wish to visit the TDA website for further information relating to guidance and help to practice ICT skills test which has various downloads.
Stage 4: In School Selection Process - Candidates details are given to schools. Utilising the information from Stage 3, schools select and invite candidates to attend in-school selection activities. These activities include: observation of an interactive activity with children or young people; preparation and delivery of a short presentation to the selectors; a number of questions related to the selection criteria for the programme; a reflective activity. This stage can take until the end of April. Successful candidates will be contacted by the school shortly after interview. Unsuccessful candidates will receive a letter at the beginning of June.
Stockton-on-Tees Graduate Teacher Programme works closely with the schools involved in the Partnership. This ensures that key personnel working with trainees are coached to a high standard to meet the requirements of the programme. Trainee's applications are made available to schools in the partnership who have offered training places for the following year in certain subjects or phases.
If candidates are successful and are offered a position on the programme they must be prepared to make themselves available for the whole week to attend an Introductory Week commencing 2 July 2012. This is an important element of the programme and is compulsory.
