Graduate Teacher Programme - Course Payment and Funding

Funding for trainees

As a trainee on an employment-based route, you must be employed in a maintained school for the duration of your training. The financial support you receive is the salary from your school, which is at least the minimum point on the unqualified teacher pay scale (approximately £15,000 per annum).

Self-funded candidates

The Stockton-on-Tees Graduate Teaching programme may recruit additional trainees on a self-funded basis.

This is possible when trainees are already employed by a school which is willing to fund the trainee in order that they can acquire Qualified Teaching Status - trainees must be employed by the school for the full duration of their training programme.

As a self-funded trainee, the candidate will complete the four stages of the recruitment and selection activities as required by all potential trainees to gain a place on the Graduate Teaching programme.

If you wish to apply to become a self-funded trainee you should mention this in your initial application.

Headteachers interested in supporting a self-funded trainee must contact the Training Manager in December of the previous year to discuss procedure and contractual agreement.
