The Inclusion Officer is responsible for:
- The provision of advice and guidance to schools, Governing Bodies and parents on all matters relating to pupil exclusion
- Ensuring that schools work within DCSF timescales and procedures in all matters relating to exclusion
- Ensuring Governor Disciplinary Committee meetings are conducted appropriately by being in attendance to advise all parties
The Inclusion Team work with schools and parents to support pupils who are at risk of exclusion (Fixed Term or Permanent), identifying and exploring any additional required support or alternatives needed to enable the pupil to remain in education thus avoiding exclusion.
Schools are required to report all exclusions (Fixed Term and Permanent) to the LA. The Inclusion Team maintain a database of all exclusions reported by schools. Information is sent to the Inclusion Officer via completion of a 'Notification of Exclusion' form. This information allows the LA to record data and produce reports and statistical information to assist in the strategic planning of services and provide information to schools and the DCSF. This information also ensures identification of schools that may require additional advice/support in relation to exclusions.
The Inclusion Team work with schools, parents, and Internal and External Agencies to plan and implement required support for individual pupils.
This can include support and advice on:
- Pastoral Support Plans
- Parenting Contracts
- Moderating Panel
- Access Group
- Managed Moves
- School Support
- Alternative Educational Provision
- Partnership places with Primary and Secondary PRU's
The role of the Inclusion Team is to help school aged children and young people, regardless of their background and circumstances, continue in education thus achieving positive outcomes in the five areas outlined in Every Child Matters.
