Green Gates Primary Pupil Support Centre

The Primary Pupil Support Centre is part of the Behaviour for Learning Service at Green Gates.

The Centre is staffed by teachers and teaching assistants specialised in the management of challenging behaviour. Children are priorities for support by the Authority's Primary Pupil Planning meeting when:

  • Their behaviour is affecting their ability to make progress in school
  • They have been excluded from school for either a fixed term or permanently

Centre staff work with the child, the school, the family and other professionals involved to build an accurate picture of:

  • What the difficulties are
  • Whether there are learning needs that have not been identified
  • What would help the child experience more success in school

The Centre currently offers children support ranging from:

  • Full-time fixed-term placements where the child is educated at the Centre instead of at school
  • Part-time placements where the child attends school for part of the week and the Centre for part of the week
  • Outreach support

Children are taught in a small group setting which is as much like school as possible. They are helped to understand how to recognise and manage what may be social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. They are also helped to see themselves as successful learners again and to recognise and respond to the rules and routines of school life which keep them safe and help them make progress.

The objective of any intervention by Centre staff is to help the child succeed in mainstream primary school or move on to identified specialist provision as soon as possible.

At the Centre you will find:

Colin White who is a Lead Teacher.

Rita Sinnott who is a Teaching Assistant.

Howard Robinson who is a Teaching Assistant.
