The advisory service consists of link advisers, School Improvement Partners (SIPs), consultants and staff in two CLCs and three Education Action Zones.
The service offers leadership, challenge and support to primary, secondary and special schools across the LA. Each adviser/SIP has a designated number of schools and in this role works with the school in monitoring and evaluating quality of provision, standards and leadership and management. An annual report is produced for the Governing Body which complements the school's own self-evaluation. Advisers and consultants work with schools in need of additional support and under the Task and Steering Group mechanisms offer guidance appropriate to the school's individual need.
Advisers and consultants also offer specific support and guidance on a range of issues, subject specific and generic such as leadership and management and teaching and learning. Advisers support governing bodies in the appointment of headteachers and deputy headteachers. The three education action zones work with schools in discrete areas of the Borough, Thornaby, North Stockton and RC aided schools in South Stockton. The CLCs provide training and support to all schools across Stockton-on-Tees.
