A Naming Ceremony is a very special way of celebrating the arrival of your child and welcoming him or her into your family and the wider community. It is also an opportunity to declare, before family and friends, your promise to be as good a parent as you can, and for friends or relatives to confirm their special relationship with your child. A Naming Ceremony is a unique occasion for everyone to be involved with as they pledge their love and support for your child's future development.
Ceremonies can be conducted in any of the Borough's approved premises, or at the Register Office itself.
Important points to note:
Neither the Naming Ceremony nor any document issued at a ceremony has any legal status and cannot be used to change a child's name. Please contact the Register Office for further advice about changing a child's name.
Naming ceremonies do not contain any religious references. If you require a religious ceremony, you should contact your place of worship or religious community.
We will require a birth certificate to be produced at the time of booking, and a deposit will be taken. For more information about our fees, please go to
