Marriage or Civil Partnership Ceremony

Whether for Marriage or Civil Partnership, your ceremony is very special and we want to do everything we can to ensure that you have the ceremony you want.

Our standard ceremonies are straightforward, consisting of a welcome and introduction, the legal requirements of the ceremony, the signing of the register or schedule and finally the taking of photographs.

There are, however, a number of ways to personalise your ceremony:

  • include readings or poetry, read by a close friend or relative
  • include some words special to you
  • write your own additional vows
  • give or exchange rings, tokens or other gifts
  • choose music to make an entrance to, for signing of the register or schedule and then, as you leave
  • Include your children (or someone else's), perhaps as ring bearers
  • Refer to absent friends or loved ones

The only limit to your personalised ceremony is your imagination!

We will offer guidance, suggestions and give you the opportunity to discuss your requirements before your special day.  The only proviso we have to make is that there is no religious meaning to your readings or music.  If you are in any doubt, please contact us and we will be able to advise further and incorporate them at suitable places in the ceremony.

The law requires a minimum of two people to witness the registration of your relationship and we would recommend that they are over 18 years of age.

Irrespective of the venue in which you choose to hold your ceremony, a Registration Officer will need to discuss the information you have given in your notices before the ceremony can begin.

Different laws govern Civil Partnership and Marriage Ceremonies and so the structure and legal formalities for each differ; you'll find further information specific to your ceremony on the web pages called Civil Marriage Ceremony and Civil Partnership Ceremony.

Before you visit these pages to learn more about your ceremony, we'd like to offer our best wishes for your big day and assure you that we strive to make your ceremony the truly memorable occasion you want it to be.
