Same sex couples wishing to register their civil partnership need to give notice at the Register Office - we take bookings for both Civil Partnership Registrations and for Civil Partnership Ceremonies.
Stockton-on-Tees Registration Authority are proud to have hosted two ceremonies on the first official day, 21 December 2005, including one ceremony at 8.00 a.m. in the Register Office - the very first to take place in the Teesside area.
Our Civil Partnership Registrars are carefully selected to ensure we are able to deliver a professional, enthusiastic and genuine service to our same sex couples, and we would be honoured to be part of your special day.
Some Useful Information
- Couples will need to be resident in England or Wales for at least seven days before they give notice of their intention to register. The notices will be given at the couple's local Register Office, either separately or together, but must be in person.
- The notices will be publicised on the Register Office notice board for a waiting period of 15 days before the civil partnership can be registered. The notices will include the couple's full names and the Civil Partnership venue, but not their addresses.
- The couple must be at least 16 years of age (if under 18, parental consent is required). Neither partner can be in an existing marriage or civil partnership, and the couple must not be related to each other within prohibited degrees of relationship.
- The civil partnership will be registered when the couple and two witnesses have signed the Civil Partnership Schedule in the presence of a Civil Partnership Registrar.
- There is no legal requirement to have a ceremony as well, but if the couple wish to, we will be more than happy to arrange a ceremony that is tailored to their needs. The signing of the Schedule and the ceremony itself can take place at the same time, or separately, and in different venues.
