Citizenship Ceremonies

Since 1 January 2004 every person who makes a successful application for British Citizenship, is invited to attend a Citizenship Ceremony at their local Register Office. Each applicant will be required to swear (or affirm) an oath of allegiance to the Crown and pledge to uphold the values and laws of the United Kingdom.

Here at Stockton-on-Tees Register Office we are proud to have welcomed 442 British citizens (up to 30 June 2008), all of whom have joined our local community from 53 countries across the globe - from the Irish Republic, Russia, India, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela, Sierra Leone, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Romania, Ethiopia, Libya, Kosovo, Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Albania, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Bulgaria, Zambia, Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria, Belarus, Germany and Canada to USA, South Africa, Malaysia, Palestine, Argentina, Iraq, Morocco, Burundi, Arab Republic, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Turkey, Taiwan, Vietnam, Uganda, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Somalia, Jordan and Nicaragua - adding to the many different cultures, faiths and backgrounds that already exist within the Borough. Becoming a British citizen is a significant event in your life, and we hope that attending one of our ceremonies will be a moving and memorable celebration.
