Thornaby Town Centre Redevelopment

Thornaby is Open for Business

Thornaby Town Centre has been transformed by a £30 million regeneration scheme which has been delivered by Thornfield Properties in partnership with Stockton Borough Council.  Its fabulous new look was officially launched on Saturday 25th April with a fun filled day of entertainment.

New shops which have opened include New Look, Bonmarche, Peacocks, Grainger Games, Wilkinsons and Home Bargains creating over 200 job opportunities for local people.  These complement existing anchor stores such as Asda, Superdrug, Newboulds and Iceland in addition to Barclays, William Hill, Ladbrokes, Miss G Beauty Spa, Jalz Hairdressing Salon, T.D. Morton Opticians and Thornaby Post Office which have been housed in a new retail block since last November.

A striking piece of public art 'Unity Sphere' has been installed above the new coffee kiosk. The Sphere is intended to reflect the spirit of Thornaby's regeneration; a community reconnected and strengthened looking to its future while also celebrating its proud industrial past.  At the night the sculpture is internally lit to create a stunning piece of public art.

And that's not all; children from four local schools have created historically themed artwork which has been installed into the newly clad pillars in front of Wrightson House.  Lighting and a new CCTV system have also been put in place.

There's more good news for Thornaby as the library has also been refurbished and is the location of the Council's first Customer Service Centre.  Thornaby Pavilion is also benefiting from over £1m investment to create a new children's play barn, changing rooms, and lift to complement the recent improvements to the café, bowling rink and the inclusion of a brand new gym.

Car users parking at Pavilion Shopping Centre are being encouraged to keep an eye out for signs informing them of new parking arrangements.  From Monday, June 15, free parking will be limited to a maximum of 3 hours with no return within 2 hours to ensure that visitors to the popular Centre can get a parking space.

The scheme will be completed in August with the opening of a brand new Lidl store and an additional car park.

Andrew Sanderson, director at Thornfield, Leeds, said "The redevelopment will significantly improve the economy of the town.  We look forward to seeing regular shoppers and new visitors who can enjoy feeling proud of their new town centre."
