127 / 128 High Street
127 and 128 High Street are a pair of Grade II listed buildings occupying a predominant position, opposite the Town Hall, in the centre of Stockton-on-Tees.
Originally two separate buildings, believed to date from the late 18th century, they were extensively re-modelled in the 1960s when a single large retail unit was created at ground floor level.

Prior to the grant aided restoration the buildings had been vacant for over ten years and were in a condition that detracted from the visual amenity of the conservation area. Water had penetrated the structures and caused deterioration.
The restoration has created two separate retail units which the owner wishes to rent out.
Application
A grant was awarded to this property in March 2010. This grant covered works to correct structural issues and make the shell of the buildings wind and watertight.
Design
The owner engaged a RIBA Accredited Architect to ensure that a sensitive approach was adopted to these listed buildings. The purpose of providing SHiP funding is to ensure that a more conservation lead approach can be adopted.
Planning
The works undertaken were granted planning and listed building consents.
Evaluation
The buildings were targeted for refurbishment as they occupy a prominent position on the High Street. Bringing them back into use will contribute towards the wider regeneration of the Town Centre.
Progress
Work on site has been completed.
