University of Durham, Queen's Campusis home to 2000 students and is looking to expand to 5000 by 2020.

Teesdale Business Park is home to University of Durham, Queen's Campus and also to Stockton Riverside College. In conjunction with Teesside University in Middlesbrough and Tees Valley's college network, this provides a strong support network to improve skills, encourage innovation and retain and attract skills and expertise.

The Wolfson Research Institute based at Queen's Campus fosters research in medicine, health, social care and wellbeing. Working with the National Health Service and Local Government, its collaborative research and findings are instrumental in contributing to public policy, professional practice and the development of new products.

Education and lifelong learning are at the centre of policy making within Stockton Borough Council. The Building Schools for the Future programme, together with planned investment in primary education will enhance and integrate learning opportunities for Stockton Borough's young people and produce a skilled workforce for the future. The Borough is also home to excellent independent schools including Red House School in Norton, Teesside High in Eaglescliffe and Yarm School all firmly established amongst the country's best.

Plans are in place to create two new academies - one specialising in health and the other in digital and creative industries. Both are primed to develop a strong enterprise base in the Borough. This spread of activity will help sustain our business base by instigating and supporting new-business start ups.
