Billingham Town Centre Redevelopment

Billingham - Stockland's Masterplan approvedBillingham Town Centre redevelopment. Proposed view of Queensway - towards West Precinct Food Hall.

It's great news for Billingham residents as the Masterplan for the town's redevelopment, submitted by developers Stockland, has now been formally agreed by Stockton Council.

The submission follows the public consultation (see menu on left hand side) held in November 2009 during which Billingham residents showed their enthusiasm for proposals for improving their town centre.

The approval means work can get underway for the regeneration scheme to go ahead in phases.

Phase 1 will include the refurbishment of the former Kwiksave building in the East Precinct to make way for a national retailer.  This will be followed by plans for a new food store in the West Precinct.

Phase 2 and 3 will include the refurbishment and possible extension of existing units.  A new store is also proposed for the East Precinct in front of the Forum.

Throughout the development a range of other improvements will be made to include refurbishment of the upper parts of the various blocks, new lighting, paving, and planting.  New facilities in the shopping area will include new public toilets and a children's play area.

Over the coming months, Stockland will submit detailed planning applications for the different phases.  Other initiatives that Stockland have commenced include the introduction of a full time centre manager, security foot patrols, and new town centre CCTV system.  Refurbishment works have commenced on the external fabric of the buildings.

The masterplan and consultation report can be downloaded below and a hard copy is also available to view in Roseberry Library, Billingham.
