Stockton Borough is the ideal place for investment in the North East of England, playing a major economic role in the Tees Valley Region. We are positioned astride the River Tees with immediate access to the Tees Port and the Durham Tees Valley Airport - we are well positioned for local, national and international access to markets for products and people.
Our economic base is thriving, traditionally centred around chemical and process industries, complemented by modern financial, professional and service businesses. We benefit from a strong mixed economy with major new capital investments planned in the globally recognised Centre for Process Innovation at Wilton, and a population growth forecast of 9.7% over the next 7 years.
Key regeneration schemes include:
- Hardwick and Mandale - two housing regeneration schemes due to deliver up to 1200 new homes over the next 7 years.
- North Shore development - provides a riverside location with plans for new apartments and homes alongside new hotel and leisure facilities, all in a high quality environment with modern layout and design.
- Bowesfield development site - under discussion for major expansion of more housing and commercial, mixed use business space.
- Billingham and Thornaby Town Centres - forecast to have £65m spent on redevelopment and new tenants are being secured.
- Stockton Middlesbrough Initiative (SMI) - a partnership between Stockton and Middlesbrough Borough Councils to regenerate the urban core of the Tees Valley creating a city scale environment.
