It is possible to view online versions of planning correspondence within three working days from the date that we receive it. We try to update online information as soon as we receive it but this is not always possible if we have lots of information to process, or if there is a technical difficulty with the online planning system.

Plans and documents are available online for applications received after 1990. A full set of all planning records from 1948 to 1989 are held at our office which are continually being put onto the system to make all of our planning records available online.

The latest version of the system offers better search options and improved accessibility as well as e-mail notifications for the applications and locations you are interested in. A Public Access user guide is available to help you get the most out of the system.

Submit a planning application online

When submitting a planning application via the council's online facility, you will be directed to  the Public Access application service.  You can submit a conventional paper-based planning application if you would prefer.

Payment of online planning applications

Online applications will be processed and passed to a member of our team to check its validity.  If you have paid online and the application is valid, it will be registered.  If you have chosen the 'pay later' or 'cheque' option, your application will not be registered until we receive the full fee.

Defamatory comments

It is good practice to publish information given by applicants and objectors on the Council website. Comments relating to planning applications form part of the Statutory Register. The Council has a duty to make this information available via our website.  If we receive comments about a planning application that are considered to be defamatory to another person, these remarks will not be included in any reports or published on the Council's website.  This is because publishing a defamatory statement may constitute a libel. The original paper version showing the comments will remain on the planning application file.  This will be available for public inspection.  The author would remain at risk of the possibility of an action for libel unless he or she arranges to have the defamatory remarks omitted.
