Stockton and Middlesbrough Joint Retail Study

The Stockton and Middlesbrough Joint Retail Study is part of the evidence base for the Local Development Framework. The study has helped inform the Council's Retail Policies by:

• setting out the national, strategic and local planning policy context, as well as summarising the previous Middlesbrough and Stockton retail studies, and other relevant documents
• providing an overview of local shopping patterns within the Stockton/Middlesbrough Sub-Region
• considering the potential 'capacity' for additional new retail development in the Middlesbrough/Stockton Sub-Region
• providing an assessment of the qualitative need for additional retail floorspace
• considering the potential impact of the developments proposed upon existing centres.
