Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document

Our Planning Obligations Supplementary Planning Document was adopted in May 2008.

A Planning Obligation is a legally binding agreement between a developer and the Council. Planning Obligations are intended to make acceptable development which would otherwise be unacceptable in planning terms. More information about Planning Obligations can be found in Circular 05/05: Planning Obligations.

This Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides developers, planning officers and the public with information and guidance about the Council's approach towards securing Planning Obligations associated with development. The SPD expands on the policies contained within the adopted Local Plan and expands on the policy areas that will be the subject of future Development Plan Documents (DPD).

A six week public consultation on the SPD was held in Summer 2007. Numerous comments were received and these have been considered by the Council and incorporated into a final version. The consultation draft can be viewed on request.
