Open Space, Recreation and Landscaping SPD
The Open Space, Recreation and Landscaping Supplementary Planning Document is intended to:
- improve the quantity and quality of open space and recreation facilities in the Borough.
- improve our ability to request contributions from developers toward open space and recreation facilities.
- provide developers with transparency and certainty about what we expect early on in the development process.
- improve the quality of development through high quality landscaping schemes.
The SPD is based on a Planning Policy Guidance 17 Assessment, which requires that standards are set locally and based on a robust local evidence base. More information on PPG17 and the guidance for the assessment can be found on the Communities and Local Government website.
The SPD was adopted by Full Council on 20 January 2010. It is available to below, along with its supporting documents. It is also available to view in all of the Borough's libraries. If you would like to purchase a copy of the SPD and PPG17 Assessment, please contact us using the details on the left of this page.
The council has produced an Open Space Audit which was used to produce the Planning Policy Guidance 17 Assessment. You can view land identified within the Audit and how it was produced.
Two PPG17 Assessment Calculators have been developed, based on the information contained within the Open Space, Recreation and Landscaping SPD. Final requirements for open space and built facility contributions will be agreed with the Case Officer as part of the planning application process.
