Spatial Planning Section
The Spatial Planning Section provides planning policy advice to the Council and external organisations and individuals.
Please scroll down to see 'real time' information on the production of Local Development Documents and the Community Infrastructure Levy. To receive email notifications of progress on the Local Plan please email us using the address to the left of this page.
The Spatial Planning Section's main role is preparing the Local Plan. This is a collection of documents that sets out the Council's policies for meeting the community's economic, environmental and social aims for the future, where this affects the development and use of land. You can find out more about our documents by following the links at the side of this page.
We also
- monitor the impact our policies are having to see if they are meeting their objectives or if they need to be reviewed;
- carry out research to make sure our policies are up to date and are justified;
- survey housing, employment and retail development in the borough;
- comment on emerging government guidance and other Councils' LDFs;
- participate in regional and sub-regional work where appropriate.
Update May 2013 - We are currently progressing our Regeneration and Environment Local Development Document towards the 'Publication' stage. This combines earlier work on the Yarm and Eaglescliffe Area Action Plan, the Regeneration DPD, the Environment DPD and the Core Strategy Review. A separate Gyspy, Traveller and Travelling Show people Development Plan Document will also be produced.
The full timetables for the production of both these documents appear in our Local Development Scheme. However, work on these documents and the Community Infrastructure Strategy has been delayed. Due to slippage, it is anticipated that the Publication draft of the Regeneration and Environment LDD and the Issues and Options relating to the Gyspy, Traveller and Travelling Show People LDD will be available for public consultation in Autumn 2013. This is reflected in the indicative timetables given below, however a more detailed timetable will be produced in due course.
