Spatial Planning Section
The Spatial Planning Section provides planning policy advice to the Council and external organisations and individuals.
Our main role is preparing the Local Development Framework (LDF). This is a collection of documents that sets out the Council's policies for meeting the community's economic, environmental and social aims for the future, where this affects the development and use of land. You can find out more about the LDF by following the links at the side of this page.
We also
- monitor the impact our policies are having (including Alteration Number 1 and those saved from the 1997 Local Plan) to see if they are meeting their objectives or if they need to be reviewed;
- carry out research to make sure our policies are up to date and are justified;
- survey housing, employment and retail development in the borough;
- comment on emerging government guidance and other Councils' LDFs;
- participate in regional and sub-regional work where appropriate.
February 2012 - We are currently reviewing the spatial strategy and housing elements of our Core Strategy. The results of the review will be amalgamated into a single Regeneration and Environment Development Plan Document. A separate Gyspy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople Development Plan Document will also be produced.
The full timetables for the production of both these documents appear in our Local Development Scheme, however there is a summary below.
