The initial phase of crime reduction/tackling fear of crime began with the relocation of a Community Task Force (Sergeant & 9 Police Constables) into the area to provide high visibility policing. This was funded via the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
Residents were given a direct line to officers (dedicated telephone line) and intelligence links/trust restored through the Police starting to attend residents’ meetings and act promptly on info received. Through this increased intelligence, arrests increased, for example in terms of tackling drug dealing.
