Street lighting improvements have also been introduced. These were based on an in depth crime analysis showing which streets had the highest levels of domestic burglary. The programme is operational over 3 years and draws on good practice that shows that major reductions in dwelling burglary can occur with the introduction of improved street lighting.
The new street lighting columns have an attachment which allows for mobile CCTV cameras to be attached. This is anticipated to provide increased evidence and improve detection/conviction rates. Funding for the cameras is from external funds.
