About the Pathfinder Area

The NM area is home for approximately 7,000 people. It is a diverse cultural community, which includes 30% of Stockton’s black and minority ethnic population (mainly Pakistani Muslim) including refugees/asylum seekers. Black and minority ethnic residents constitute 18% of the area’s total population.

There is a young transient population, in an extensive bed sit area interspersed with longstanding owner-occupiers.

The NM area is in many ways a thriving community. It has a number of active resident groups and is home to a significant number of voluntary sector agencies. These include Stockton International Family Centre, Stockton Residents and Community Groups Association, The Cornerhouse Youth Project and Stockton Voluntary Development Agency.

We have benefited greatly from working closely with these organisations and the commitment of statutory agencies to explore new methods of service delivery. Council services physically located in the area include 3 primary schools, a Youth Offending Team, a Business Centre, a Training and Education Centre, and two hostels. However, all of the statutory agencies are active within the area. The NM area is also home to Stockton’s two mosques and several churches. There are also two health centres and several facilities relating to drug treatment in the area.
