Ingleby Barwick

Ingleby Barwick name pillar
Ingleby is the old English word for Barley and Barwick means Fields, - Barley Fields
Located just outside Yarm, Ingleby Barwick is one of the premier housing dvelopments in the Borough and in the twenty or so years since the first houses were built it has emerged as a thriving community that continues to grow and prosper.
The area is a prime example of how Stockton-on-Tees is developing into a vibrant and modern place to live where residents have pride in their area and there is a genuine community feel.
In 1970 an aerial photograph was taken of the Ingleby Barwick area that revealed some anomalies that caused a great deal of archaeological interest. On further investigation the site was thought to be that of a Roman Villa and other associated buildings.
Three rivers run around Ingleby Barwick the River Leven, the Tees and Bassleton Beck , these are represented on the Coat of Arms that was granted and presented by Lord Gisborough in 2000.
