Sports and active leisure strategy

The sport and active leisure strategy for Stockton-on-Tees has been developed for the purpose of making a positive difference to our residents and communities through sport and active leisure.

It has not been developed for the sole use of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council; it is intended as a framework for our partners who provide active leisure services across the whole of the borough. We intend to use it to harness the expertise and resources of the public, private and voluntary sectors to really make a positive difference.

Olympic and Paralympic Games opportunities plan

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the largest sporting event ever held in the UK. This exciting event presents an opportunity for the whole of the UK - not just London.

We intend to harness the enthusiasm and the 'buzz' that will surround the Games and hope to get some real benefits for our communities through sport.

The Olympic and Paralympic Games opportunities plan identifies how we intend to achieve this.  Despite the majority of the Games being held in the South East of England, there are real benefits to be gained if we are prepared to do all we can to seize the opportunity.

Attaining a lasting legacy will not be easy but we aim to develop a range of initiatives and support packages that will not only enthuse people in the lead-up to the Games but that will also enable them to continue to participate in the months and years after this massive event. As with the development of all successful initiatives, partnership and consistency will be the key to our success.
