Physical Activity Strategy 2003-2008

Physical Activity Strategy
The aim of Stockton's Physical Activity Strategy is to improve the health and well-being of the local community through the provision and support of various physical activity initiatives.

The strategy will outline the importance of investing sufficient resources into selling the benefits of physical activity and on altering the perceptions of physical activity and encouraging long-term changes to behaviour. It aims to outline and develop partnerships working to provide support and motivation for those in most need to remove barriers to participation, reduce levels of social exclusion and in turn improve quality of life.

This strategy identifies the needs of the population of Stockton-on-Tees and is based upon a mapping exercise that has considered both national and local strategies, policies and consultations.

The strategy has been steered by Stockton Well Being and Action Group, and developed by a multi disciplinary sub group with the help and support of both voluntary organisations and local residents.
