Shopping in Stockton
Stockton has a diverse range of shopping experiences to suit every need. It has been a centre for shopping since 1310, when the town was granted a charter to hold a market "upon every Wednesday forever".
Stockton's broad pedestrianised High Street hosts a lively market every Wednesday and Saturday, with over 150 stalls. A smaller market takes place each Friday. There are also markets in Billingham on Mondays and Thornaby on Thursdays. The market offers a wide and varied selection of goods and remains to be one of the town's main highlights with locals and visitors alike.
Stockton High Street has two centres just off the High Street, one of which is Castlegate Shopping Centre and the other, Wellington Square. Both have a variety of shopping with the usual high street names, plus some unusual and surprising ones!
And if all that shopping leaves you with an appetite then Stockton and the surrounding towns and villages can provide you with an amazing choice of eateries, providing quality, excellence and value for money. From the unashamed luxury of some of the best hotels and restaurants to the relaxing informality of old-world hostelry surroundings, the quality of eating out venues can match London cuisine - at much less cost. For a free eating out guide you can request one through the tourist information centre, online, by phone or by post.
Away from the centre of Stockton you will find all the big brands names in furniture and DIY stores. Portrack Lane is home to many large retailers offering everything you need for in and around the home and office.
Teesside Retail Park houses your favourite high street stores in larger scale outlets. Items for the home, you and the kids can be found here. Teesside Leisure Park is adjoining with plenty of places to eat and entertain the whole family. Peter Barratt's Garden Centre is another outlet popular with shoppers. Situated near Preston Park it offers everything you need for the garden.
