Located on the banks of the River Tees with its excellent water sports and leisure facilities, Stockton-on-Tees has a town centre with a vibrant atmosphere and fantastic shopping opportunities. Historic buildings, dating back to 15th century, host all your High Street favourites and some surprisingly different independent shops. They sit alongside our modern shopping centres, Castlegate and Wellington Square. You'll be spoilt for choice.
We are proud of our High Street, the widest in the UK, and can boast the largest outdoor market in the North East. We hold huge street markets every Wednesday and Saturday, with a smaller version of the market each Friday. For more information visit the Markets webpage.
Right at the heart of our High Street is Stockton's Town Hall, built in the 1700s and open to the public by appointment. And coming in Autumn 2008 the famous Stockton Shambles Market Hall will be transformed into a food lovers paradise - this historic building will once again focus on meat...and fish, pickles and cheeses... when it is re-launched as a specialist food market. For more information visit The Shambles webpage.
When you've shopped 'til you've dropped, perk yourself up with something to eat and drink at one of Stockton's many cafes, bars or restaurants. Then why not catch a show or film, at Arc, our contemporary and lively Arts Centre? Or take a short walk to the newly refurbished Cultural Quarter - in the Green Dragon Yard and then its just a couple of steps away to our gorgeous riverside - mostly an area for calm contemplation but also a much used venue for some of our fantastic events such as, Stockton International Riverside Festival...and its ever-growing little sister Stockton Fringe Festival.
Stockton...always something going on! It would be great to see you be part of it!
