The Road

The RoadBy Cormac McCarthy

An unnamed man and his son journey through what appears to be a post apocalyptic world where other people have survived, scavenging for small amounts of food and water. It is a tale of unremitting desolation and desperation. Maybe it is meant to portray the resilience of the human spirit and the bonds of love?

I found it boring in parts with an unbelievable plot. Apparently this is a very "worthy" book but wasn't for me I'm afraid. Not  recommended *

I was very moved by the beauty of the love between father and son and found it a most gripping story of survival. It was so descriptive I felt I was journeying with them. Despite finding parts really harrowing I just could not put this book down. I've never read a book like this - the dialogue was wonderful - so simple yet so meaningful.

It took a while to get into but once in I enjoyed this book. I would like to have know what disaster had befallen the country. An excellent read. Recommended *****

Not a holiday read !  Disturbing  and thought provoking. Not recommended **

Powerful end of the world story. Looked for happy event/ending that just did not happen. Not recommended ***

The story is written in an avant-garde genre leaving the reader to use his imagination. Not my kind of reading, however it is a gripping narrative of how to survive against the odds. Recommended  ***

When I read a story I like to know the time and place in which it is set, so I very quickly lost interest and didn't finish the book. Not recommended  *
