Killing the Beasts
by Chris Simms
'Killing the Beasts' was only read by three or four members of the Billingham readers group but their reactions were unanimous to recommend the book, especially to readers of crime novels. The book is complex and intriguing. The plot/storyline is convoluted with time shifts which mainly worked but initially were annoying.. The timelines become closer and eventually merge and make sense. Tom's situation spiralling out of control is desperate and probably too detailed. While the different stories do slot together it was felt by some that the ending is disappointing because Tom's situation and mental state do not give credible motive for murder. However, Tom's downward spiral and crazy logic are well done. The book was found to be a good read. One reader could not put it down and would definitely recommend it.
