Blackberry Wine
By Joanne Harris
Harris's book was enjoyable but not so compelling as her other books. Having a bottle of wine as narrator was an odd touch which some struggled with. It was thought that the blurb on the flyleaf was more promising than the book itself. The book provides vignettes of rural life in France and could be compared with Jean de Florette. If the reader can suspend belief this is an engaging and whimsical tale. The complexity of the main character Jay made an interesting read . Fans of Joanne Harris enjoyed the book and would recommend it while others found the writing plodding.
