Angel Rock

By Darren Williams

Angel RockThe main characters were well defined. The sheer despondency and misery of their lives was apparent throughout the story. The plot was cleverly achieved. It slowly evolved, gradually bringing the subplots together and ending in a satisfactory way. Although it is difficult to describe this book as enjoyable I found the book compelling. The author showed great ability in urging the reader on by subtle hints of danger to Flynn from either human or animal sources .The imagination was engaged in fears of possible conclusions . Life in the Australian outback was certainly portrayed as one of hardship, deprivation and tragedy 3/5

A beautifully described story of suspense full of strong poetic writing leading to a delightful conclusion. The landscape of Angel Rock and its surroundings come very much alive in the story - the characters also. This is a book I enjoyed reading and would certainly recommend it. It is also a story of coming of age and discovery which can be very appealing 4/5

The suspense did keep going until the end as to what happened to Flynn and also why Darcy did what she did but I didn't find that I couldn't put it down. I liked at the beginning the description of the time (1969 and the moon landings) as I could picture myself there and there was a lot I enjoyed but to me it wasn't brilliant 3/5
