What is Charter Mark?
Charter Mark is the Government's award for organizations which provide you with an excellent public service. It rewards those who work hard and go out of their way to help you. Public services which apply are assessed by a team of independent judges and if they meet the tough standards they receive a Charter Mark.
Why did local Libraries apply for a Charter Mark?
Applying for Charter Mark status helps us to focus on our existing services. By ensuring we meet the strict criteria required by applicants, we are already improving our ideas and facilities. Libraries are constantly being complimented by satisfied customers and are proud of the services they provide. We are confident we can maintain the high standards of Charter Mark and feel it is the very best way to show the local community that we are doing a good job!
How did the public help libraries to achieve Charter Mark status?
Customers showed their appreciation of their local Library and the facilities provided in the Open Technology Centre, by nominating us for Charter Mark and by supporting our application.
What happened next?
Stockton Borough Libraries and Open Technology Centre had to show a panel of independent judges that they met the Charter Mark criteria. The standards include performance, information and openness, consultation and choice, courtesy and helpfulness, putting things right, value for money, user satisfaction and recent and planned improvements in service and quality.
What happens now we have received a Charter Mark?
As well as being very proud Stockton Borough Libraries is recognised Nationally as being a Charter Mark recipient. This shows both the local community and visitors to the area, that they can expect a top class level of service. We have already been re-assessed once and were successful in keeping our award for a second year running, so will now be re-assessed every three years so you can be sure our standards will never slip!
