Position Statement/Public Library Standards Report

SBC Libraries Position Statement 2003

Until 2003 library services were required to produce annual plans for the Government reporting on current performance and detailing plans for future development. In 2003 this requirement changed and the Public Library Position Statement replaced the statutory annual plans.

In February 2003, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) published the Government's long term strategic vision for public libraries 'Framework for the Future: Libraries, Learning and Information in the Next Decade'.

SBC Libraries Position Statement
The Public Library Position Statement was prepared in response to this document and details Stockton Borough Library Service's policies, practices and future plans to implement Framework for the Future.

SBC Public Library Standards Report 2004

In 2004 all public library authorities in England were asked to report on their performance in meeting the national public library standards as at 31st March 2004, including local targets and progress since National Standards were introduced in 2001.

Stockton Library Service received the maximum score for its Public Library Standards Report, achieving one of the top scores in the country
