The Housebound Library Service provides materials to people of all ages who are unable to use a Community Library due to illness, disability or frailty. The service can be permanent, or temporary for example where someone may be recuperating from an illness or accident.
The same quality of service and access to the same range of materials as those found in a community library are delivered direct to the individual's home. Spoken word and large print are available for the visually impaired as are caption DVD's for the deaf. Jigsaws and recorded music can also be provided. There is a request service for Users wanting specific titles.
Applicants for the service will be visited by the Housebound Reader Services Officer within two weeks of referral. The service will be explained, eligibility for it assessed according to agreed criteria and a User Profile compiled. The profile contains information about the Users reading preferences, access information and so on.
To ensure the needs of our users are continuously being met, reassessments are carried out on a regular basis.
Visits are made on a three weekly basis and at a regular time by our staff who carry identity.
The whole service is free of charge and requests to receive it can be made by individuals themselves, relatives, friends or carers.
