Library Bookbus Service

In the main the Bookbus visits Residential and Nursing Homes, Day Centres and Sheltered Accomodation however those stops marked with an asterix are open to all members of the public. For further details contact Priority Services (01642 528045)

People who use the Bookbus live in sheltered accommodation, nursing and residential homes or attend day centres. Access to the vehicle is possible for wheelchair and less agile readers via a wheelchair lift operated by library staff. The health and safety of the Users is of paramount importance and many safety features were incorporated in the design of the vehicle.

The stock provided includes a large selection of up to date fiction and non-fiction in both ordinary and large print. Spoken word on tapes and CD are available for the visually impaired or those who find it difficult to handle printed word. A small selection of community information is carried and a small number of children's books are on board so grandparents can read to their visiting grandchildren. Jigsaws are also loaned.

Users may borrow as many books as they can read between visits and there is a request service for those wanting individual titles. The Bookbus will usually call on the same day and approximately the same time every two weeks. The staff take a trolley service into some establishments to visit Users unable to board the vehicle. The service is free of charge to its Users and the Bookbus Librarian is constantly looking for ways to improve it and to encourage new readers.
