Stillington Youth and Community Centre

Stillington Youth Club operates on Monday and Wednesday nights for young people aged 13 to 19. All members must complete a registration form, read, agree and sign the Behaviour Policy.

It offers a number of different activities as well as information and guidance. Youth people take part in helping to decide what goes on at the club and what it looks like. Following successful funding, the young people have improved the facilities and activities available and have been keen to get involved in planning. A popular activity is painting on canvas which demonstrated their artistic ability.

Another popular session was when a DJ from Top Dog visited the centre and showed members tips on using the decks. We are currently planning future sessions to visit Hollywood Bowl, organise a BBQ and a basket ball tournament.

At the club, members have the opportunity to work towards accreditation. Several young people have been awarded certificates in Emergency Aid and REAL Award. Additional activities include teamwork, leadership and negotiation.

With support from the management committee and youth workers, members are encourage to evaluate sessions which has highlighted positive feedback. When asked why they attend the centre, young people stated, "it's warm; we have a laugh, meet friends, good crack! and different things to do".

If you're interested in becoming involved in the club, come along on a Monday and or Wednesday night from 7 to 9pm or contact Karen Merrick, Youth Service Support Officer on telephone 01642 528129
