Chill Zone Youth Cafe

The Chill Zone is a new youth cafe which has been developed for young people in the Borough to meet up with their friends. Young people will decide on how they would like the youth cafe to be run and what they would like to see in the cafe and, by coming in young people can get involved in different activities, projects, learn new skills and receive certificates for the work they do.

Visit to Newquay

From 27th May to 30th May 2008 Chill Zone youth cafe took seven young people to visit the Eden Project in Newquay, this trip was funded by Stockton Youth Bank. The Eden Project was really helpful we found out a number of environmental issues such as, not to eat wild plants, that pineapples grow from the ground and not on trees, displays of coffee and curry! plants and that most plants are sensitive and hide when they are touched. Also the green car show and a 20 foot bee and robot made out of recycled house hold equipment held our interest.

We took part in a number of activities throughout the course of the four days; we participated in activties such as surfing, rock climbing and horse riding.

Some of the group commented on their experiences and this was their thoughts......

"The time in Newquay was brilliant!" said Louise Harland aged 15.

Another young person, Samantha Trundley said "The weekend helped raise my confidence by doing new activities that I never thought I'd be able to do."

"Great fun Newquay Tour 08, the activities helped everyone gain confidence and by getting involved in the activities it was great exercise, it was brilliant" said Simon Millar aged 17.

Danny Mazey aged 17 said "I enjoyed the surfing most of all, however it was tough at first but I got used to it. I was scared of doing the rock climbing but overcame my fear by doing the activity"

Come and meet staff and young people to see what we have to offer.
