Stockton Disabilities Youth Forum

Stockton Youth Assembly has set up a sub group to work in partnership with Stockton Parent Support (SPS). The group will is set up a youth forum for young people with disabilities. It is hoped that the forum will meet monthly, and will have representation from schools and projects that provide a service to young people.

At the initial meeting, young people advised both Stockton-on-Tees Youth Service and Stockton Parent Support of what they would like to see for their services. They identified the following:

  • To have an elected Chair Person, Vice Chair Person, Secretary, Minutes Secretary and Treasurer
  • To have the opportunity to participate in consultation exercises based on making a difference for young people
  • To invite Councillors and Officers to attend meetings as and when appropriate
  • To organise a training programme to ensure the effective operation of the youth forum
  • To apply for funding to provide such a youth forum
It is planned that members of the youth forum will have representation on other youth forums/councils/assemblies in Stockton-on-Tees. This will ensure that the voices of young people with disabilities are heard on the issues that affect them.
