Newtown Community Resource Centre

Stockton-on-Tees Youth Service has been working in partnership with Newtown Community Resource Centre and other organisations in the Newtown area to set up a new youth forum. The forum acts as an advisory group to the Management Committee on youth related issues within the new Centre and the surrounding area.

The Centre, which opened in September 2004, has been refurbished to accommodate the needs of local people in the Newtown area. The steering group of youth advisers comprises representatives from Stockton-on-Tees Borough Councils' Children, Education & Social Care and Security Services, Connexions Tees Valley, the voluntary sector and Newtown Community Resource Centre Project Manager.

The partnership group meets on a regular basis to consult with interested parties. It is intended that priority will be given to the youth forum identifying their training needs. An effective training programme has been devised and is currently been delivered.

If you are under 19 years old and would like to be part of the youth forum please contact Chris Downie whose contact details are at the top right of this page.

About the building . . .

The building divides itself naturally into three areas in a linear pattern between the main A177 Durham Road and Green Lane. Refurbishment and plans for using the building have been guided by this layout. One area is to be allocated to the delivery of health promotion initiatives, another to Sure Start and a playgroup and the Durham Road end of the building for community use.

This latter section is a base for Eastern Ravens Trust and the community police team. The centre has a small café, meeting areas and training rooms, ICT provision through Stockton-On- Line and a cyber café with Internet access, which is used by all centre staff and visitors. If you would like further information about the provision within Newtown Community Resource Centre, please contact:

Pam Bighi Centre Administrator, Newtown Community Resource Centre on 01642 614126.
